IPv6 Test

Nothing runs until you opt in. Starting the test sends three small requests to ipify.org — one over IPv4, one over IPv6, and one letting your browser choose.
What is IPv6?
IPv6 is the current version of the Internet Protocol, designed to replace IPv4. IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses (like 203.0.113.42) and offers about 4.3 billion of them — long since exhausted. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses (like 2001:db8::8a2e:370:7334), providing an effectively unlimited pool and removing the need for much of the address-sharing (NAT) that IPv4 networks rely on.
Why does IPv6 matter?
- Direct connections: without NAT in the way, gaming, video calls, and peer-to-peer apps can connect more directly and reliably.
- Performance: many large networks now route IPv6 traffic on faster, less congested paths than IPv4.
- Privacy trade-offs: IPv6 addresses can be more stable per device, so modern systems use temporary “privacy addresses” that rotate regularly. VPN users should check that their VPN tunnels IPv6 too — an untunneled IPv6 path is a classic leak.
How this test works
The test contacts ipify.org over three routes: an IPv4-only endpoint, an IPv6-only endpoint, and a dual endpoint that lets your browser pick. If the IPv6-only request fails, your network path doesn’t currently support IPv6 end-to-end — which can be caused by your ISP, router, operating system, or a VPN that disables IPv6 to prevent leaks.
